Actively Blogging Now!

Hey, believe it or not, today is the actual start date of this blog. All of the other previous posts were written at once as I tried to remember how this appventure got started in the first place. At the time I had no idea how long and hard the road would be, so I never considered documenting it, but now at this stage in the game I would say I’m at about the halfway point between the beginning and the end goal, which is to publish a real iPhone app in the app store. Going forward I hope to be a bit more specific about the things I’m learning and doing along the way.  I also want to point out resources that I’m using, what’s working and not working in my learning process.

In fact, while I’m at it, I’ll just lay out the 4 main purposes of this blog in case there’s any question why I’m doing this:

The Purpose of this blog is to:

  1. Serve as a personal outlet for me to process my own learning experience on this journey from web developer to iPhone developer.
  2. Provide a resource to others like me who are just starting out in iPhone development and not sure where to go.  (I don’t profess to have the answers, just telling my story as it unfolds and hoping it’s of use to people).
  3. Drum up some support for my efforts to develop iPhone apps and hopefully have a small audience of readers eager to buy my first my first published iPhone app.
  4. To make a few bucks from Amazon book referrals.  If you buy a book that you found on this blog, then I get a small commission. It costs you nothing extra, but it helps us both get closer to our iPhone dreams!

Here’s what you can generally expect out of each blog post going forward:

  1. I want to keep you informed about what I’m learning week to week, and where I’m learning it. I don’t want to get too technical, because you have your books to get your fill of that stuff.  I really want this blog to be more casual, and real to life.  Learning this stuff is dang hard, no matter who you are.  We could all use a little encouragement along the way and maybe learn a few lessons from the next guy who’s one step ahead or share some of what we’ve learned with the guy who’s a few steps behind.
  2. I also may need to rant and rave from time to time. Occasionally I get fed up with things, as I’m sure you do too, and this stuff stops becoming fun. Ranting is OK, but complaining is a no-no, so somebody stop me if I go down that road. I’m an expert complainer, but the Bible says not to do it, so hey : )  But there are also note-worthy things that happen in this industry every day. I try to keep my eye on what’s going on out there, so if I find something inspiring to rave about I’ll be sure to let you know as well.

So here we go! Onward and upward! The “real” blogging begins right……..NOW…no NOW…..no, actually right NOW!  : )
