Waiving the White Flag

After waiting around and reading news about the new iPhone terms of service, I decided to give up on using Titanium to develop iPhone apps.

Titanium may be able to squeak by because they technically compile your JavaScript into native Objective-C and package the app using Xcode, but it’s not enough to convince me.  I decided that it’s too risky. Even if they get a pass now, what’s to protect them from becoming a target in the future? Either way I have to learn a massive API, and I might as well learn a language the adds value to my overall skill set while minimizing the risk of wasting my time.

Overall it was pretty disappointing news, but I can understand Apple’s position. Their products and services are money making machines that churn out billions with a “B”, so you can bet they will continue to do what is necessary to protect their empire. It seems futile to resist, so If I want to play the game it’s best to just play by their rules.  In the end I’ll probably be glad that I did.
