What depressing news. I was all excited about my future as a Titanium developer for the iPhone, using what I already know, then Apple lowered the boom. News started going around that Apple was adding a little something to the new terms of service for the iPhone OS 4.0:
Applications may only use Documented APIs in the manner prescribed by Apple and must not use or call any private APIs. Applications must be originally written in Objective-C, C, C++, or JavaScript as executed by the iPhone OS WebKit engine, and only code written in C, C++, and Objective-C may compile and directly link against the Documented APIs (e.g., Applications that link to Documented APIs through an intermediary translation or compatibility layer or tool are prohibited).
Seems clear that most of this is aimed at keeping Adobe Flash off of the iPhone permanently, but it left a couple of other companies like Appcelerator and Phonegap scrambling to make sure they were in compliance. Seems the jury is out for now.
