iPod Touch!

Yay! I figured the day would eventually come, but never thought I’d have to wait so long. Ever since the iPhone came out in 2007 I’ve dreamed of having one. The original price was out of the question for me at the time.  I figured the price would go down eventually, and it actually went down a LOT faster than I ever imagined. It seemed like the price kept dropping by the hundreds every year, until finally it was like $200.  Now the price was right, but dang-it-all, those AT&T plans sure get you in the end. I decided I didn’t want to pay an additional $40 a month to have the data plan, that’s like buying 2 more iphones every year in addition to the one you’re already talking on.

My wife is very supportive of me in these matters, and she encouraged me to go for it. But I still held back, and another year went by.

All of the buzz about the new iPad had me feeling like I had to get going with my Cocoa studies, so I decided to buy an iPod touch. I needed a device for testing after all, right?  I decided to get the 32 Gig model because I wanted LOTS of apps and videos and it had the scratch resistant screen and the headphones with a speaker built in. I was very happy with my purchase.  So now more than ever I was motivated to get started learning how to make apps that could run on my own device!

FYI, I bought my iPod at BestBuy and I learned something interesting. Best Buy the retail stores are actually very different from BestBuy.com. Same name, same look, but different.  The online store was promoting a really great sale on the iPod touch, but that sale wasn’t in the store. Best Buy will honor their online price if you ask them, but they wont volunteer that information.

So I learned that it’s always best to check BestBuy.com before walking into the retail store and buying something.  Or you could just use one of the Macs on display and check their online price while you in the store if you want to be sneaky : )  This trick saved me $30 that day!
